Follistim Description
Follistim is a a multi-dose cartridge containing FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for injection.
Follistim (follitropin beta) is sold as Puregon in Europe. It is a gonadotropin medication and contains a hormone found naturally in the body called follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). In women, FSH is commonly used with hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) to help the ovaries get eggs ready for ovulation. In men, FSH causes sperm to grow and mature.

Follistim Uses and Side Effects
Follistim Uses & Indications:
Follistim is used as a fertility treatment in men and women. In women it stimulates egg production in healthy ovaries. In men it stimulates sperm production. While it can be used on it’s own, it is often used as part of a fertility drug program and in combination with hCG medications.
Follistim Side Effects:
Common Follistim side effects include: Headache, stomach pain, bloating, redness/pain at the injection site, breast tenderness/pain or dizziness.
Serious side effects that require medical attention include: Flu-like symptoms including fever, chills, muscle aches and tiredness, swelling of ankles/hands/feet or bleeding from the vagina. Consult with your doctor immediately if you feel weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech, vision changes, sudden severe headache, pain/swelling of the calf muscles, chest pain, rapid breathing or signs of OHSS.
Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) can cause fluid build up in the stomach, chest, and heart area. Symptoms of OHSS include severe pain/swelling in the pelvic region, severe nausea/vomiting, sudden/rapid weight gain, or change in the amount of urine. If you develop a rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness or have trouble breathing it might be caused by a severe allergic reaction, seek urgent medical attention.
