Meriofert Description

Meriofert is supplied as a powder in a vial that is mixed with a solution (also provided) for injection.
Meriofert is a highly purified human menopausal gonadotrophin (HMG), belonging to a group of medicines called gonadotrophins. Each freeze-dried vial contains 75 IU human follicle stimulating hormone activity (FSH) and 75 IU human luteinising hormone activity (LH). FSH helps stimulate egg production, and luteinizing hormone (LH), helps the eggs mature and release. Meriofert helps stimulate eggs to mature in women whose ovaries are basically healthy but are unable to develop eggs. It is not used for women who suffer from ovarian failure.

Meriofert - What's Included

Meriofert is sold in single vials of two sizes: 75iu and 150iu
Vials of diluent (sodium chloride) are also included.
The manufacturer does not include needles or syringes for injection. These are available at any US pharmacy.

The Difference Between Menopur and Meriofert

Meriofert is a generic alternative to Menopur. Other generic brands include Merional and Menogon.

Meriofert is manufactured by IBSA in Italy. We generally avoid from supplying generic fetility medications, but began supplying Meriofert after a prolonged global shortage of Menopur. Over the 2 years of limited supply of Menopur, Meriofert rose in price by over 100%.
Since 2023, Menopur has been available without shortages and we can offer it at a better price than Meriofert.
The main advantage of Meriofert is that it is packaged for sale in single vials, while Menopur is sold in multipack boxes (normally 10 vials).
Both Menopur and Meriofert require the separate purchase of needles and syringes which are not included in the packaging.

Serious Meriofert side effects that require medical attention include: Flu-like symptoms including fever, chills, joint pain, muscle ache and tiredness, weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech, sudden vision changes, sudden severe headache, pain/swelling of the calf muscles, chest pain, shortness of breath or signs of OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome).
Symptoms of OHSS to watch out for include: Severe pain/swelling in the lower abdominal (pelvic) area, nausea/vomiting, sudden/rapid weight gain and change in the amount of urine.
